St. Thomas arrived in India in the year 52 AD at the then famous port of Craganore in the Malabar Cost. He founded the seven and the half churches in various places of Kerala.

In the year 345 A.D., Knai Thoma, a rich merchant, and 72 families from Edessa (or modern Urfa), immigrated to Malabar (presently Kerala) and established their colony.
